Spooky Season is over, yet Christmas has not yet begun. Still, what better way to start November than with a sneak peak of this year's Monster Calendar, suitably timed to appear before you just in time for tonight's festivities.
October has been a terribly productive month beginning with celebrations of Hero Week in the Black Saturn server, and our discussions of Goliath, "Heroes" by David Bowie, Mahāmāyūrī Vidyārājñī, and Arsène Lupin. Our magical girl series shaped around Kate Bush's Hounds of Love also continued, entering now into its final arc with Watching You Without Me, whilst we also took a moment to consider the life and death of poet, Sylvia Plath, once more on the anniversary of her birth.
All of this led us to the crown of our October events, our yearly Hallowe'en story, Are Mothers Saints?, this time inspired by '80s vampire movies and taking its title from a Manic Street Preachers B side.
Perhaps as is becoming common for us, we spent a lot of time this month discussing mothers and how motherhood changes not just the lives of individuals but those who depend on them. Writing this now, I find myself watching a spider outside waiting for its brood to hatch; what must it be like to be waiting, waiting, and know that once the wait is over, your children will consume you alive?
Stay tuned, friends, as we hopefully bring you happier thoughts next month!
